about

Nick Corbin returns with his debut solo album, Sweet Escape, an eclectic set of soulful songs augmented superbly by the production skills of Gavin Monaghan (Ocean Colour Scene, Editors, The Blinders, Paolo Nutini, The Twang etc).

From bittersweet opener Sweetest Escape - coolly anchored by an acoustic groove Bill Withers would have been proud of - to the heart-aching, yearning finale of Can’t Say Goodbye, the central theme connecting each song on the record is one of “new beginnings”.

There are numerous highlights in between too: the unsettling, helpless laments of Long Long Gone and Can We Do It Again? are perfectly counterbalanced by the joyously uplifting, Philly-style ballad, Sunshine In.

And then there’s Gotta Get Back To You, a stunning slice of sun-drenched disco with a horn-heavy, infectious chorus sure to blast away any lockdown cobwebs.

The wistful, lilting Never Did Look Like Love almost enters yacht-rock territory, giving way to the space-age mid-tempo funk of Thought It Through, followed by Don't Break The Mould, a menacing account of manipulation and mind control.

It's Alright To Change Your Mind is a defiant swipe at the influence of social media, carried along by a pulsating, psychedelic groove, whilst penultimate track I Need Reminding takes a more introspective turn, showcasing a previously unheard vulnerability and diffidence in Nick's narrative.

The LP is packaged in high quality full-colour jacket with photography by Dean Chalkley and design by Sophie Heath. LP stored in a printed inner sleeve with a full colour picture label as shown.
